OnePlus Phone To Have 13MP / 2160p Sony Camera

OnePlus is pleasantly engaged with the budding community in its forums and posted details on how and why the engineering team chose a capturing camera for the upcoming OnePlus One phone.

The team chose Sony’s Exmor IMX214. It features a 13MP sensor and a wide f/2.0 aperture. To correct edge distortion, the capturing camera has a sixth lens element (where most phone cameras have four elements and even many flagships settle for five).

The OnePlus phone will feature Image Stabilization Plus (IS+), which "reduce noise and shakiness" but this sounds more like digital stabilization since it talks of "over 120 algorithms" rather than proper optical stabilization.

Anyway, the wide aperture, Exmor sensor and IS+ promise pretty fine low-light performance.

On the video side, the capturing camera will capture 4K video (2160p) and slow-motion 720p @ 120fps clips. For selfies and video calls, OnePlus has selected a 5MP camera.

The goal of the team behind the phone is to produce fine photos and videos in real-life situations, without compromising the portability of the device (and "without an frightful protruding camera").
