The usual round of HTC One leaks and flagship market availability announcements aside, this week's news saw the anticipated announcement of the Oppo Find 7, one of the first QHD-display-toting smartphones, as well as recent smartwatches from LG and Motorola.

Let's hold a see at all of the mobile news you may have missed in this eleventh week of 2014.

The EU Parliament voted on whether a universal charger for mobile devices should go in effect for countries within the European Union. The vote passed overwhelmingly with 550 votes for and only 12 against, and now needs to be approved by the European Council. If passed, member countries will have two years to create it part of respective national laws, and manufacturers three years to comply.

Expected to be outed in the coming months, Microsoft has confirmed that the Windows Phone 8.1 update won't be going by a codename (like Windows Phone Blue), and instead continue to be known as plain recent Windows Phone 8.1. Meanwhile, Windows Phone devices are continuing to find niche markets throughout parts of Europe and Asia, with devices running Microsoft's mobile Operating System (OS) officially outselling the iPhone in Romania this week.

Motorola has unveiled its first smartwatch, the Moto 360. As part of the recent Android Wear program, the smartwatch is one of the first to come with a round face design. It also comes with Google Now integration, which lets you schedule appointments, sdiscontinue texts, set alarms, and much more. LG was quick to join the smartwatch party after the recent Android fork was unveiled, too.

The second smartphone to pack a QHD (2560 x 1440 pixel) display has arrived, and it's the Oppo Find 7. The device's 5.5-inch display results in a mind-boggling 538ppi. Under the hood lies a quad-core 2.5 Giga Hertz (GHz) Snapdragon 801 CPU, alongside Adreno 330 GPU, 3GB of Random-Access Memory (RAM) and 32GB of expandable memory. It's also got a 13MP snapper that's capable of recording 4K video, and even has a cool Super Zoom feature that takes 10 photos and merges them into a single 50MP image. Check out the leaked capturing camera samples to see how that works.

A couple of soon-to-be former flagships have received updates to the latest version of Android 4.4 KitKat, namely the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, Z1, Z1 Compact, and the LG G2. The Sony devices feature recent Playstation 4-esque animations, while the G2 gets enhanced Knock On support for unlocking the device more easily.

Finally, we were tipped about Apple prepping an 8GB variant of its "affordable" iPhone 5c model, which became official on Tuesday and can now be had in Apple stores in the UK, Germany, and other EU markets. Also spotted was an advanced multitouch stylus patent secured by Apple, featuring an extendable nib and built-in sensor. This would enable the stylus to deliver multiple touch zones like a paintbrush, and would be a neat feature to see in a future iPad device.
